Asser Kuveri Kapere (born June 11, 1951) is the current Chairman of the National Council in the Republic of Namibia.[1] He was born in the small town of Omaruru in the Erongo Region of Namibia.

 Career

Kapere has served in several political positions and offices in Namibia, including Governor of the Erongo Region (1992-1999), Commissioner of the Western Region (1990-1992), Member of Parliament (1999-present),[2] Deputy Minister for Works Transport and Communication (2002-2004). He has been the Regional Councilor for the Arandis constituency since 1992.

Prior to the independence of Namibia, he was a prominent independence activist both within SWAPO and the Mineworkers Union of Namibia (MUN). He has served as Vice President and President of the later.

Asser Kapere is a Member of the Central Committee of the ruling SWAPO Party. He is a board member of the Democracy Support Center formed in July 2006.[3] He is chairman of Namibian National Council.[4]
