Namibia in the NewsPRESIDENT Sam Nujoma has called on the Kenyan government to allocate more money to agricultural research as the continent strives for self-sufficiency in food production.
The East African Standard newspaper quoted Nujoma, who was on a visit to that country, as saying the Katumani maize produced in Kenya was doing very well in Namibia. He said the priority of the African Union was to achieve self-sufficiency in food production and that Kenya could play a key role through research and development. Nujoma was speaking at the Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (Kari) Katumani in Machakos town after touring the facility. The President also toured the farm of a prominent milk producer, Peter Kyalo, in Mua Hills. Nujoma said Kenya was a good friend and harboured him while he was a Swapo freedom fighter. Nujoma arrived visited Kenya on Thursday for a three-day state visit.
