Buisiness and EconomyFacing a mounting pressure from the passenger transport, the Macao Airport is becoming more active in tapping the air cargo service market.
Friday's Macao Daily said that two other airline companies joined the alliance of the Administration of the Macao Airport Ltd.this month for air cargo transportation, which reinforced Macao's role as a regional hub. The new business will broaden the airport's radiating effect tothe eastern and northern markets. One of the two, the Shanghai Airlines operates one cargo flight daily between Shanghai and Macao. Air Macao, the only airline company in Macao will launch its new cargo service on route between Macao and Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu province by the end of the month. Meanwhile, Russia's Vim Airlines has recently signed an agreement with the Macao Airport on the launching of charter cargoroute to Russia and Commonwealth of Independent States. Taking its geographic advantage in the Pearl River Delta region, which has evolved into one of the world's major manufacturing centers, Macao Airport has been actively promoting air cargo service, especially for daily commodity products. The freight volume is expected to exceed 20,000 tons for the first time in June. Enditem
