Entertainment Music, Movies ....I was more than a little surprised to hear that the DVD of "Kill Bill Vol. 1" (FOUR STARS out of four stars, Miramax, $29.99) would precede by only three days the release of the second half of Quentin Tarantino's tribute to every grind house movie he ever loved. But since "Vol. 2" -- to be reviewed in the Free Press Friday -- turns out as promised to be simply the second half of a single movie, the reasoning may be less odd than it seems. In fact, I might suggest watching the first installment before seeing "Vol. 2" at the theater, to get the full effect of what is now revealed to be a true B-movie epic.

Entertainment Music, Movies ....We'll have to reserve judgment on Quentin Tarantino's "Kill Bill - Vol. 1" for the moment. Right now the buzz is that "Vol. 2" goes a long way toward explaining the first film. So that should mean that the violent, stylized, puzzling revenge story of "1" will get some meaning - or at least some context.

Entertainment Music, Movies ....Shawn Fanning started it all with Napster, and now, the music industry is taking more hits to their revenue every year, including last year where global record sales fell to $32 billion, dropping 7.6 percent from 2002 according to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry. This is the fourth consecutive year in which the industry has seen declining sales. Music Pirates seem to be the cause for this, as the burning of CDs and file sharing become more prevalent everyday. The purchasing of video games and DVDs have also contributed to the slope, but it appears to be the illegal copying of music that is hurting the industry the most.
