 |  | High blood pressure during pregnancy is a warning sign of diabetes and heart disease later in life, a Dutch study indicates. The study of 491 older, postmenopausal women found that those who had reported high blood pressure during a pregnancy had a 57 percent higher risk of developing calcium buildup in their arteries, compared with those whose blood pressure did not rise abnormally during pregnancy.

 |  | National Cancer Institute (NCI) scientists have discovered how human T-cell leukemia virus type 1 (HTLV-1), which infects about 20 million people worldwide, evades being held in check by one of the body’s natural defense mechanisms. An active infection with HTLV-1 leads to T-cell leukemia in up to five percent of all cases worldwide. NCI is part of the National Institutes of Health.

 |  | The teen pregnancy rate in the United States is at an all-time low, while the rate of Caesarean deliveries is at an all-time high. At the same time, the birth rates for mothers aged 30 and older rose in 2005 to levels not seen in nearly 40 years.
