PostNukeAt least seven people have been killed in a roadside bombing near the town of Dera Ismail Khan in north-west Pakistan, police have said.
Pakistani security officers have been fighting in nearby tribal areas
The blast hit a police van on a routine patrol, killing three policemen, three paramilitary soldiers and a passer-by. "It was a remote-controlled bomb," district police officer Daar Ali Khattak said. At least four other by-standers are also reported to have been injured in the explosion. The police van was badly damaged in the blast, about 290km (180 miles) south-west of the capital, Islamabad. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack, but Mr Khattak blamed Islamic militants from nearby South Waziristan. Thousands of Pakistani troops are hunting suspected al-Qaeda and Taleban militants in the troubled tribal region.
