Mr Nayak said he wanted to achieve a feat and be uncommon
|
Martial arts instructor Bibhuti Bhushan Nayak said the
attempt took him one step closer to achieving his goal of having 72
Guinness records in his name.
His previous records are for breaking three concrete slabs on his groin and the most back-hand push-ups in an hour.
Guinness authorities say they are now authenticating Mr Nayak's claim.
Mr Nayak said he had to prepare himself mentally for four months before attempting the record.
"I knew this was my one shot at this record because you
cannot try and attempt the same thing too often," he told the BBC News
website.
The event was supervised by three judges and filmed on
camera, in accordance with the rules laid down by the Guinness
authorities.
Self-discipline
Mr Nayak said he treated each practice session as if it was the real thing.
He said his technique when attempting the fingertip push-ups record was not to give himself time to think about it.
The record verification process could take up to six weeks
|
He followed an intensive training regime, stopped all other forms of exercise and focused only on the push-ups.
"I did at least 4,000 fingertip push-ups for about six hours every day [since July].
"I would do a part of the routine in the morning and then a few hours in the evening," he said.
Mr Nayak also monitored his diet and survived on white
pulses, one vegetarian meal and at least 15 litres of water a day
during the training period.
He described setting records as a "passion and addiction".
"We have so many people in the entire world doing martial arts, doing the same kind of thing.
"This made me wonder, why should I not do something
extraordinary and different? That's when I decided to achieve a feat
and be uncommon."
Past achievements
Over the past eight years, Mr Nayak has regularly broken or set new records related to physical strength.
He already holds several national and international
records for completing 133 palm push-ups in a minute, 819 back-hand
push-ups in one hour and 1,448 stomach crunches in one hour.
However, he is most proud of his Guinness record for breaking three concrete slabs on his groin.
He said: "I was sent a letter by the Guinness
authorities saying that this was my best record but they will not allow
or encourage more people to attempt this one because it is potentially
dangerous."
A spokesman for Guinness World Records, Sam Knights,
told the BBC they had received the necessary documentation from Mr
Nayak and were in the process of verifying it.
"The procedure can take anywhere from four to six weeks
because we have almost 1,000 people sending us record attempts every
week and we need to go through each one meticulously to ensure that
everything is in order," he said. |
