PostNukeDEPUTY Prime Minister Libertina Amathila has called for a concerted effort to improve national road safety.

She was addressing mourners in Rundu at the mass funeral of 25 of the 28 people who died in the Grootfontein bus crash.

Amathila said she, and Government as a whole, were concerned about the lack of safety on Namibian roads.

The death of 28 people in one accident was too much, considering that Namibia's population was only 1,8 million, she said.

"Namibia is shocked and sorrowful as a nation and we, as a Government.

We must find ways to ensure greater road safety for our road users.

Transport companies must join all of us in arriving at ways to minimise road accidents.

We must intensify road safety campaigns and enforce our laws more strictly, and if there is a need to enact additional road safety laws and regulations, let us do it now, before more lives are lost.

Road safety must be the concern of all of us," the Deputy Prime Minister said.

She thanked everybody who had made donations to the Red Cross Society to assist the crash victims' families.

Amathila also thanked the Police, Motor Vehicle Accident Fund, the Red Cross Society and the Governors of Oshana and Kavango for their effective response in the aftermath of the accident.
