Namibia in the NewsA MAN identified as Petrus Mutukuta (34) was shot dead by a security guard at Onyaanya in the Oshikoto Region early last week according to the Police.
NamPol liaison officer Warrant Officer Samuel Hamukonda told The Namibian that Mutukuta and two friends reportedly arrived at the Millenium Shop at Onyaanya in the early morning hours of Sunday. They had allegedly broken into the bedrooms of the young women who work at the shop and had demanded the keys to the safe. They then opened the safe and took out N$1 000. As they were walking back to their car, which was parked some distance away, a security guard opened fire on the trio and hit two of them. Mutukuta was apparently seriously injured while the one injured and the third - probably uninjured - man managed to reach their car and to drive away. Instead of going to the nearby Onandjokwe Hospital, they drove to Engela Hospital about 100 kilometres away from the scene of the robbery. The case was reported to the Police at Okatope and Ondangwa. They found Petrus Mutukuta dead at the scene. The Police also noticed blood on the ground, presumably from the other two men. Police enquiries led to a wounded man who had been taken from Engela Hospital to Oshakati State Hospital. The Police arrested the man in the Oshakati Hospital where he is under Police guard. The third man has yet not been arrested. Hamukonda alleged that Mutukuta had been part of a gang led by the wellknown armed robber called 'Bobby Green' who, along with two accomplices, was shot dead by the Police at the end of last year. They had killed a Policeman at Continental No 2 at Ongwediva.
