Namibia in the NewsPRESIDENT Sam Nujoma shifted two deputy ministers in a mini reshuffle on Saturday.
Clara Bohitile becomes the new Deputy Minister of Finance, while former Deputy Minister of Higher Education Buddy Wentworth will take over her job of Deputy Minister of Basic Education. The Ministry of Higher Education had two Deputy Ministers in Wentworth and Hadino Hishongwa. Bohitile had been Deputy Minister of Basic Education since 1995, a position she took over from Wentworth. Bohitile replaces Rick Kukuri who resigned to take up a position as Executive Director of the Africa Development Bank, for three years, in Tunis, Tunisia. Approached by The Namibian yesterday, Bohitile confirmed the appointments. She described her new appointment as a challenging job. "It is a challenge but I will grab it with both hands and deal with it. When I joined Basic Education a lot of children of school-going age were not in school and we had to clean up the mess. Now Unicef reports say that we have 96 per cent to 97 per cent of them in school," she told The Namibian. For Bohitile, it will be a shift from spending money on education to bringing in revenue for Government. She will shuttle between the two offices this week as she ties up outstanding issues in her old office before settling in behind her new desk next week. Wentworth was in Dubai when President Nujoma broke the news. He is expected back in Namibia this week. President Nujoma left for China yesterday.
